The last few days varied from collecting data to relaxing in the sula next to Apiapaati. The water level dropped a lot within a couple a days, making it possible again to cross the river to the jungle. Dick went on on night walk together with Fred and some of the people on the island, and they got really lucky! Dick found two snakes he never saw before, a large rainbow boa with its reflecting scales and a rare Wied's false coral snake.
On the last night, Dick went back in the boat at night to try and catch a caiman. However they didn't make it easy for him, they hid between branches and leaves in the water, which made it unable to use the loop on a long pole. Determined to catch the caiman, he got out of the boat into the river and swam to the caiman. He got really close twice! He looked the first caiman in the eye on a distance of about 40 centimeters, but by accidently touching little twigs underneath the brown water, the caiman fleed before Dick could grab its neck. Yesterday, we left for Paramaribo, which we already regret again today. Can't wait to head into the greens again!
