We wanted one last trip of our own and decided to go to Voltzberg with two friends of ours. We didn't expect this roadtrip to take so long becaise after leaving at 3pm, we arrived at Wittagron at 8:30pm. Due to this we did not make it to Fungu island that night, as the boat ride was going to take another 4-5 hours. Therefore we stayed at a little camp near Kaaimanston, and would continue our journey the next morning.
Arriving at Fungu island is one of the prettiest sceneries I've seen. The large hammock complex has a beautiful dark brown colour and is surrounded by greens. The only thing present between us and the island is the gorgeous sula that lies in front of it. After having a long discussion with the people working there, we managed to get a guide to show us the way to Voltzberg at 3am the next morning. That night, the raleigh boys were making upbeat music, chanting and dancing till the early morning.

Whilst we were ready at 3am, the guide was getting ready, which led to us leaving at 4:15am eventually. This meant that we had to race against time, to make it up the mountain before sunrise. Missing two fer-de-lance on our way up caused us to become more cautious and walk a little slower as we were walking 4km/hr on average. We made it just in time and were able to enjoy the view for about an hour! This 360' view from the top of the mountain was immensely beautiful. I'm sure we would have stayed longer if we had the time to do so.
On our way down the group split up a little, as Dick and I really wanted to see some animals (which we wouldn't have seen if we stayed with the talk-active lads). We spotted our first wild peccary crossing our path right in front of us, and 10min before that an agouti. Overall we found 4 snakes and quite some amphibians.
Our last stop before returning to Paramaribo was the "Moedervallen". Whilst passing through a piece of land owned by the President, we talked to the men building the house there and received a bag of soppropo for dinner.
The next day we took one more dive in the cold water at the sula and headed back to the rainy Paramaribo.
