We have a weekend off and decide to go visit the neighbouring country, French Guyana. With the Maroni river as border, we leave Suriname by boat at Albina, to arrive at St. Laurent-du-Maroni in French Guyana. Here, we go sight-seeing and visit some local stores. After checking into our hotel, we finally have some decent Wifi. It’s really weird to be in “France”. Everything smells like France; the bakeries with croissants and baguettes, the supermarket with a typical sweet smell. The brands of products are even French! That night we head to a little restaurant where we finally had some baked potatoes instead of spaghetti or rice! I even had an entrecote!
The next morning, we head to the market on the market square. It’s weird to see how many stands found there are filled with vegetables and fruits. This is way more than expected at a market in Europe. This also lead to us being done looking around within 30 minutes, which was a pity. Back at the hotel, we internet our afternoon away! Finally able to facetime properly, and upload some stories and photos. That night, we went out for dinner again, and this time we even had chocolate mousse and crème brule for dessert! You can imagine how excited we were about the good food. In the morning, we have a quick breakfast, check-out at the reception, and head towards the boats again to cross the river to Albina again. It was a very short trip, but a nice luxurious get-away for a couple a days.
